Since our initial rankings we've had some significant changes, many due to wrestlers dropping a weight class in association with the Jan. 15th 2 lb. weight allowance. The Richland Duals and a few quality individual dual meets also factored into the rankings. Meyersdale wrestlers in particular are difficult to measure as upto date information is difficult to obtain for them. I have some uncertainty about what weight a few wrestlers will be competing in during the postseason, particularly with some of the NBC wrestlers. Seven of the eleven district schools are expected to appear in the Thomas Subara tournament, with Tussey Mountain, Meyersdale, Conemaugh Township, and Shade not participating. As always, the results of this tournament will go a long way towards the seeding for the district tournament. The match-up between NBC and Bedford lived up to its pre-match hype in a 33-30 victory for Bedford. The Bison were without 2 of their experienced reserves, which limited potential lineup changes. NBC was able to win 8 of the 14 matches, but was only able to pickup 6 bonus points. Bedford's 6 wins featured 5 by fall and a 6-2 victory by Tanner Ripple over Dillon Troutman, which was the feature bout of the match.Chestnut Ridge established itself as the clear #3 in the District with wins over Shade, North Star and Tussey Mountain. Berlin had a 2 point win over Shade, while Everett had a 1 point win over Hyndman. Bedford also had a big victory earlier in the week when they were able to get by District 6 power Forest Hills.1/18/10 This week features the District 5 regular season match of the year Saturday night when NBC visits Bedford. Absent any coaching moves and weight changes I would view NBC as being favored in 8 matches to Bedford's 6. Coach Creps will likely use his bench depth to create enough favorable matchups for Bedford to get a 7th win, which would result in upsets or bonus points determining the result. Will Bedford's 2+ year regular season win streak come to an end? Regardless of the outcome of this match, look for these 2 teams to meet again for the D5 team title. In other big matchups this week Bedford will have a tough match with District 6 power Forest Hills, while the Chestnut Ridge versus North Star match-up should also be very entertaining.
